Hilton Head Island has always attracted a vibrant population, many of our residents are, or were, successful professionals and move here when they are young enough to expect an active life. This high level of expectation is exhibited by the number of charitable organizations that have originated here, the many recreational clubs and organizations and the cultural offerings. The Hilton Head Island Institute is a new organization that reflects that desire for an active intellectual environment on Hilton Head Island.
The Hilton Head Island Institute has been formed to provide opportunities for people to gather, learn about and discuss different ideas both for the island and the world. I am really looking forward to the Institutes inaugural event, ImagiNATION 2013 will take place this fall. It is a four day festival designed to energize the community and engage the residents. Keynote speakers at the event will include former Facebook marketing head Randi Zuckerberg; author William Paul Young, who wrote the spiritual novel “The Shack”; motivational speaker and former quarterback Tom Flick; and education expert Tony Wagner. The festival will take place October 23-26, 2013.
The Institute will also host a series of lectures over the coming months including “A Place Apart, Loving the Lowcountry Community” on October 7 and “The Dawn of Freedom” a talk about the history of the nation’s first freedmen community in Mitchelville on the island.
Fall is a great time to visit the island, the weather is fabulous and there are no lines at the restaurants. I hope that you’ll consider coming down for this great event. For tickets and more information about the Hilton Head Institute you can visit their website.
