What to do on Hilton Head Island and Bluffton
What to do on Hilton Head Island!
Hilton Head Island and Bluffton are vibrant areas blessed with great weather, beautiful vistas and many opportunities for keeping busy. Most of our residents have an active lifestyle and many talents, which is exhibited by the large number of charitable organizations, recreational clubs and the cultural offerings like the Arts Center and the Main Street Youth Theater. There is no reason to be bored in the Lowcountry! I will continually add new organizations and new opportunities to be engaged so stop back to see what might be new to do in the Lowcountry.
Volunteering is an important part of life in the Lowcountry and there are a multitude of great organizations here for you to participate in depending upon your area of interest. My husband's aunt and uncle have a daughter that is a disabled adult as a result of a brain tumor at 18 so they have supported PEP (Programs for Exceptional People) which provides day programs for disabled adults and Osprey Village, an organization that is working to build an independant living facility for disabled adults. I have another friend that is a nurse, she works at Volunteers in Medicine, an organization that provides healthcare to local residents that cannot afford to go to the doctor. I have clients that volunteer at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina and some 'get their plaid on' to provide assistance to the Heritage Classic Foundation during the RBC Heritage presented by Boeing Golf Tournament, the island's annual PGA event. Tom and I work through our church to provide meals to some of our elderly members that would benefit from periodic home made meal (those of you that know us know that Tom is a great cook!) and cooking for church fundraisers. Whatever your area of interest you will find many great volunteer opportunities in the Lowcountry.
Many of our island residents come from the 'big city' and enjoy cultural offerings and the island provides them. Whether you are interested in theater, music, art or education, the Lowcountry has events to inspire you. Our newest cultural offering is the Hilton Head Island Institute which has it's inaugural events this fall. ImagiNATION 2013 is October 23-26 and is a four day festival designed to infuse our community and engage our residents. Recreation is a large part of island living, whether you are enjoying the many miles of bike paths, participating in one of the areas many 5K run/walks supporting charity or walking your dog on the beach, staying fit is a past time of many local residents. I particularly enjoy participating in some of the 5K run/walks with the RE/MAX Island Team, it's a great way to get out into the community, get a little exercise and support local charities. Bear Foot Sports is a good source for information on upcoming 5k's and half marathons. Biking is a popular pasttime on the island and there are miles of bike paths, perfect for getting out and learning more about the island, for a bike path map and other biking info go here.
